This month I learned something I always wanted to. I learned how to sync Facebook page comments with WordPress blog comments. Have you ever seen a Facebook Page display “This comment will also be posted to“? If you want this feature in your WordPress blog too, this post is for you.
The full documentation to make this feature work on your blog can be found on Facebook for developers docs.
Update: Facebook team might be discontinuing this project. Check this link for more information.
It took some research and dedication to finally make it. That’s why I want to document the process here so it may help you to accomplish the same result faster.
Without further ado, let’s start!
How to sync Facebook page comments with WordPress blog comments
It’s not hard to enable the sync with Facebook comments. You don’t even need a plugin for that. I believe the lesser plugins you use, the better.
It only takes 3 quick steps. I know you can do it in a few focused minutes.
I’ll use the Extra theme to demonstrate how it’s done, but you can achieve this using any WordPress theme. Just follow the tutorial completely. If you have any question, feel free to ask via the Facebook Comments on the bottom side of this post.
01. First, you need to create an app at https://developers.facebook.com/apps/ and turn it online.
02. Then, get the code to install the Facebook Comments on your blog. Use this link to generate the code.
Paste the code inside the <body> tag of your WordPress blog.
You need to add the meta tag too. Copy and paste the code below inside the <head> of your website.
<meta property="fb:app_id" content="" />
Add your app ID inside content.
03. Add your page ID too to make the comment moderation work properly:
<meta property="fb:pages" content="" />
You can find your page ID by pasting your page URL in this website.
04. Finally, paste the comment’s box code inside your blog post page:
<div class="fb-comments" data-href="" data-width="100%" data-numposts="5"></div>
If you have followed all the steps and Facebook Comments isn’t working yet, please check if you need to apply more meta tags to the <head> part of your blog.
Just add the missing meta tags and paste the blog post URL inside the Facebook’s debug tool to help analyse what’s missing.
Facebook Comments counter
To use the Facebook Comments counter inside your blog post just paste the following code in the place you want it to appear.
<span class="fb-comments-count" data-href=""></span>
Mirror Facebook Comments
I’ve created this short video to show how to enable comment mirroring for your Facebook Page.
To do the comment mirroring by using the same comments on your website and your Page on Facebook and get the “This comment will also be posted to” phrase in all your Facebook posts you’ll need to activate one more step.
Click this link to access the comments moderation and click on “Setting”.
How to moderate comments
Bookmark the comment moderation page. You can manually aprove or deny comments there.
Don’t forget to add your Facebook’s Profile to receive notifications of new comments in your blog post. Inside the “Settings” page, click on the Moderators tab and search for your profile.
Did you manage to learn how to sync Facebook page comments with WordPress blog comments? I’m using right now this feature on my blog. Feel free to leave a message if this tutorial helped you somehow. Your feedback is always appreciated
Hope that when you share your blog posts in your Facebook Page now you see the “This comment will also be posted to” phrase.
